This page is a worked scenario used to illustrate how an Ila Earth customer could approach a 125 km pipeline survey. The names, locations, and specific outcomes are illustrative. We do not currently have a public, named customer reference using Ila Earth in production for CIPS or DCVG surveys.
A 125 km pipeline survey scenario
A worked example showing how an Ila Earth Early Access customer could run a 125 km pipeline survey end-to-end.
Scenario
A regional oil & gas operator needs to evaluate the integrity of a 125 km segment of an export pipeline. The pipeline runs through remote terrain with limited cellular connectivity. The team needs to map the pipeline route, capture readings at every test post, and produce a regulator-ready report within 30 days.
How the work would flow with Ila Earth
- Set up the project in the web dashboard — create a new project, import the pipeline route as KML, and add the relevant test posts and assets.
- Dispatch the field crew — the project lead assigns two field crews with the Ila Earth Android app installed and Bluetooth GPS receivers.
- Capture readings offline — the crews walk the route, capturing readings at each test post. The app works fully offline; readings queue locally and sync when connectivity is available.
- Review in the dashboard — as data syncs, the engineering team reviews readings, flags anomalies, and approves the work.
- Generate the report — Excel alignment sheet and PDF report are produced from the dashboard in a few clicks.
Why this would be an improvement over the legacy workflow
The legacy workflow for this kind of work typically involves paper forms in the field, manual GPS logging, and Excel-based report compilation. Common failure modes include transcription errors, missing GPS tracks, and regulator pushback on missing audit trails.
An Ila Earth-based workflow addresses all three: data is captured once, on the device, with GPS attached; nothing is re-keyed; and every action has a timestamp and an attributed user.
Important caveats
- CIPS and DCVG-specific validation is on the roadmap, not yet shipped. This example describes a general asset and survey workflow. CIPS and DCVG-specific modules are planned for a future release — see the roadmap.
- iOS is not in the current roadmap. The Android field app is the active platform.
- This scenario is illustrative. We do not yet have a public, named customer reference for this exact scenario.
What an Early Access user would see today
If you joined the Early Access program today with a similar project, you would use the available modules — Survey Management, CP Data Collection, GIS / KML / KMZ, Asset Integrity, and Engineering Reporting. You would work directly with our team to import your pipeline routes, set up your asset register, and validate the report format. CIPS and DCVG-specific workflows are not part of the current build but are on the public roadmap.
